Okay so I've been playing the guitar for a few years now and it just dawned on me that I've picked up quite a few little riff's that are quite simple yet are more fun to play than all of the complicated solo's that took ages to learn.
Right so you've probably picked up the guitar for the first time and you've probably fallen into one of two categories you've either got yourself some lesson's and are trying to master bach or you've jumped in at the opposite end and your trying to be slash rocking out to sweet child of mine but you unfortunately sound more like a cat stuck in a blender. How do I know? Cause I was there too just like every other guitarist who ever fell in love with that magical combination of wood and steel string.
Number 5 - Dancing in the moonlight
This Thin Lizzy number is quite hard to play properly but the base line at the beginning is very recognisable and also simple to play if you check here. It is number five purely because it's supposed to be played on a bass.
Number 4 - Californication
This Red Hot Chili Pepper's song is pretty simple but it can be complicated and hard to hard to remember in sequence.
Number 3 - Walk this way
This song by aero smith is fun even if you only know the main riff and just bluff it through the more complicated stuff.
Number 2 - Whiskey in the Jar
This Thin Lizzy classic can be hard to play like the professionals but check this out for the simple way to rock along with these legends of rock, it really could not be simpler.
Number 1 - Teen Spirit
And taking the number one slot is a simple song that you can learn in about two minutes and jump around your room with the guitar cable wrapping round your feet and still play mostly right. Teen Spirit by nirvana has for years been a song that gives the illusion of being better on the guitar than you actually are. The great thing about this song is that it is mostly four chords, all of which are power chord's allowing you to get your fingers used to the shape of a power chord and also prepares you for the shape of a barre chord.
So that's my list of simple guitar riffs, hopefully they'll be of some use to you and as always best of luck with the guitar stick with it and you'll get it eventually
